As a blogger, I maintain several blogs and websites such as World of Fail and Review Chicago. In addition to these websites, I guest post on numerous blogs, and currently write content for six other blogs. Man Vs Blog is my outlet for discussing things of interest, including tips on blogging and social media.

As a musician, I have toured the country in the rock band The Translation. Before The Translation, I was in another successful band called Saraphine. I spent 8 years honing my skill as a songwriter, and learned a great deal in grassroots marketing. I am currently recording my solo debut record.

Don’t Get Discouraged If Your Blog Post Sucks

I have heard there are two guarantees in life. I feel there are three.

  1. Death.
  2. Taxes.
  3. You will write a bad and pointless blog post.

When I start out every blog post, I try to make it as witty, informative and interesting as I can. I spend a bit of time crafting it, proof reading it, and then I hit that little publish button. Later that day, I’ll come back hoping to see comments from fellow bloggers and readers about what they felt about my opinion. Sometimes, I will come back to the website and see a big fat zero in the comment section. Immediately, I think ‘Wow, everyone must be stupid except me!’

Then reality sets in.

The post I made just plain sucked. I can picture it now. Joe or Josephine Average opens up their RSS reader and clicks on the newest brilliant article from Man vs Blog. They read it, utter a quick ‘meh’, and wish they could get that 5 minutes back.

Don’t think it won’t happen to you. Trust me it will. I have pulled up articles from great bloggers such as Darren Rowse and thought ‘Ok, that was entirely a waste of time.’  Even the best writers can start with a great idea and have it go south. The key is to not get discouraged when this happens.

Readers will forgive the occasional bad post. Readers will not forgive a string of uninspired and worthless posts. If you look back at your most recent post and feel it isn’t your best work, don’t fret.

Just make sure the next post you have is up to your usual high standard.

Did you change the blog theme since like a day ago?

Yeah I totally agree. When I write something I try to add as many interesting things to it like pictures & video etc. I’m thinking about adding dancing muffin cakes to entertain my 8 readers.

I try to edit my posts, mostly to correct my bad grammar and spelling mishaps.

Scott what do you think about the dancing muffin cakes? Would you be entertained?

True that! I’m still a relative novice when it comes to blogging, I’ve had some amazing posts that got great feedback and lots of traffic, and I’ve had posts that got 2 visits, because I made my friends look, and zero comments. All we can do is try our best, and hope that each one is better than the last. An incoming link from someone tremendously popular doesn’t hurt either. Hey Scoble…….

dancing muffins will entertain me that is for sure ha ha. I did put a new theme up yesterday. I get bored at work so i’ll fiddle with themes a lot.

Nice post. Everyone gets a couple bad posts or two, there is very little you can do about it.

  7. Selina Wragg Says:

All my blog posts are true to me and I talk about what’s on my mind that day. Most of me thinks that as long as I am writing what I want to write then I’m a winner regardless. But there is a small part of me that wishes I “conformed” and added some ‘hot topics’ that drew in the readers… but then I would be sacrificing myself and what my blog was set up for in the first place.

But yes, you are right, we all suck at times. I often find it’s when I’m tired and can’t get “in the zone” or collect my thoughts enough to write a compelling post.

It’s ok to stink at times, but know when to take a shower!
