Well.. I’ve been ‘blogging’ for years now.. but have never found my niche. Or should I say my ‘voice’. I have him-hawed around about the topics to blog about. Everything from personal experiences, to techie.. and social networking.
My newest, and I think final blog.. 2bestrong, is my hope to be my niche.
It’s a good blend so far, but of course it’s still an infant.

Hi Scott - I share many of the same reaons you do. Going into business actually took me away from having the time to write - aside from marketing letters. So blogging was a great way to get started again and it’s also nice to be able to help others.

But I also think it’s made me think more too. It’s easy to ignore your own advice and putting it in writing often forces you to listen to it.

I blog for several reasons, with a each general topic on its own blog. I like to have my experiences someplace for easy reference, both for me and my readers. I also like to help others learn from my mistakes and successes.

Inspiration comes from many places, such as other blogs, Google Alerts and things I do throughout the day. With so much information and so many ideas flowing daily, sometimes choosing one for an article is tough, so I might write in multiple topics in one day and schedule them for release. That gives me time to focus on another blog.

I am using my blogs1 as my Personal knowledge base, per a suggestion from Bill Ives (co-author of What blogs and wikis bring to business and knowledge management). Bill Ives, a non-HP employee, and KM Industry Leader, spoke at HP’s KM Lead bi-weekly virtual meeting on January 25, 2006 about What blogs and wikis bring to business and knowledge management. He really inspired me to pursue blogs as a solution at work. I am also using blogging as a means of sharing knowledge with my teammates. I am very excited about what I am doing with my blogs on the HP-Intranet. I have taken the HP Blogging Class2: HP Blogging Guidelines and Policies. I also have a number1 of blogs on the Internet.

Nice post. It’s nice to have a reason to think about why I blog.

Basically, it helps me to be more rigorous and “honest” about my own thinking. If I’m just ranting or pontificating to myself or my partner or over a beer with friends I don’t need to worry too much about making sense or other opinions. Blogging keeps me out of that particular trap.

And, just as some people think by talking, I think by writing so it helps me ot gather and order my thoughts.

The networking comes after those two things but it’s a real part too. The way that blogging can help me engage with others.

I feel much the same way about blogging. In most cases, it is the desire to share that makes me want to blog-or even comment. Often, it is just to share my opinion.
Besides, it is kind of fun and there is the hope of making some money too.
